Preventive Cardiology

At the Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute’s Center for Pelvic Health, care is provided in a discreet, comfortable environment. You will be working with a clinical team that specializes in women’s health and issues related to pelvic floor conditions. We will partner with you in developing an individualized treatment plan that meets your needs.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?

This program is designed for women who are asymptomatic, but are at intermediate or high risk for heart disease based on the American Heart Association’s latest criteria. Despite the fact that a patient’s basic labs may be normal, more detailed tests can help specialists determine if there is an unidentified, but increased risk.

IS THE EVALUATION COVERED BY INSURANCE?

The evaluation is not covered by insurance as it is targeted to help better stratify a woman’s risk. However, if clinical conditions are identified most plans will cover the management and treatment of those health issues.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Cardiac Screening (no charge): basic assessment including personal and family history, blood pressure, body mass index and waist circumference

Preventive Cardiology Evaluation: in-depth analysis of advanced cholesterol tests, blood biomarkers that can help predict strokes and heart attacks, electrocardiogram (EKG), as well as a physical exam including a detailed lifestyle history with a clinician, interpretation of results and a prevention plan designed specifically for you.

All evaluations will be reviewed by the clinical team led by Dr. Baum and additional studies may be recommended.

These studies can include blood tests, coronary artery CT scanning, specialized carotid artery imaging and additional laboratory testing. Optimized diet and exercise regimens are designed specifically for you, as they represent the foundation of prevention.

CARDIAC RISK ASSESSMENT

Do you have a personal history or family history in a first or second degree relative of premature cardiovascular disease?
Do you have hypercholesterolemia or hyperlipidemia?
Do you have diabetes?
Do you smoke?
Do you have a body mass index > 29?
Answer only if you have been pregnant:
Did you have any of the following during pregnancy: hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia or gestational diabetes?
Did you have a small for gestational age baby or a spontaneous preterm delivery?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be at increased risk for heart disease.
