Diabetes Education

If you have been diagnosed with, have been living with, or have a family member with diabetes, you should be aware that being fully educated on how to self-manage your diabetes is the cornerstone of living a happy and healthier life.  The staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s Diabetes Center is dedicated to providing a comprehensive diabetes program to empower people with diabetes and their families with support and education. 

The Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education.* 

Did you know that Boca Raton Regional Hospital has a Comprehensive Diabetes Program that is:


We offer monthly Diabetes Self-Management Classes. Our classes teach both nutritional and diabetes self-management skills and are conducted by a nurse and by a dietitian, both of whom are Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE). The curriculum includes medical information on:

• General pathophysiology
• Healthy eating
• Glucose monitoring
• Exercise
• Medications
• Signs, symptoms and treatment of hypo- and hyperglycemia
• Chronic complications and how to help prevent and care for these

And additional information on how to incorporate these changes into your lifestyle.

Program fees do apply; however, the classes are covered by most Managed Care insurers, Medicare and Medicaid. We would provide an insurance pre-authorization prior to attendance in any class.

Each session (12 hours total) is comprised of four 3-hour classes:
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays or
3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Four Mondays of each month

We also offer a class for pre-diabetes, glucose intolerance or nutrition for diabetes taught by a registered, licensed dietician/nutritionist:

HEALTHY NUTRITION CLASS: For Diabetes, also for Pre Diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance or healthy eating for weight loss or weight maintenance

These classes include a personalized food program for each participant and provides support and additional nutritional information to help each attendee better manage their health. Program fees apply; please call for information.

Five, 1 1/2 hour classes; developed to improve overall cardiovascular health. Topics include shopping, menu planning, dining out, stress management, vitamins, minerals and understanding the relationship between heart health and nutrition.
