Position Summary:
Provides patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary team based on national standards, and utilizing the nursing process. More than 2 years of experience is required for the Per Diem positions.
Position Expectations & Responsibilities:
Expected to be competent in the appropriate use and functioning of equipment in the area of clinical practice and department requirements. Expected to have basic mathematical skills. Expected to participate in the department/hospital performance improvement program by conducting and monitoring patient care activities, preparing and submitting timely and accurate reports, proposing alternatives when problems are identified, evaluating the plan of care and following through on steps to problem resolution. Expected to appropriately and within the Nurse Practice Act and other regulating bodies delegate to and direct the care provided to the patient by the LPN, PCA and HUC. Expected to attend and participate in at least 50% of department staff meetings as well as participate in hospital meetings, forums and seminars. Expected to use assessment skills to plan, monitor and evaluate patients and document in a thorough, accurate & timely manner. Expected to follow standard precautions and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Expected to be responsible and accountable for the delivery of skilled professional patient care that is delivered based on recognized national standards of practice, BRRH policy and procedures, the Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses and applicable laws and regulations. Expected to recognize the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accept strengths and limitations in others. Expected to exhibit adaptability, flexibility, self control and maturity in work and behavior. Expected to exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations. Expected to recognize situations which require notification of a supervisor. Expected to demonstrate leadership skills through appropriate decision making, delegation and supervision of duties, and functioning as a preceptor/resource to new staff, students and LPN/PCA staff. Expected to participate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care and to complete all physician orders, administer medications, treatments, tests and other patient needs in a timely manner and communicate effectively with all members of the patient care team. Expected to be able to wear radiation protective lead aprons in excess of eight (8) hours while standing and walking. Expected to demonstrate ability to circulate all diagnostic procedures done in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab. Critical Care
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in performing and interpreting 12 lead EKG's. Expected to demonstrate ability in the care and management of critical patients including ventilated patients, patients with invasive lines and patients with epidural catheters. CVICU
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in performing and interpreting 12 lead EKG's. Expected to demonstrate ability in the care and management of post-cardiac catheterization/surgery patients including ventilated patients, patients with invasive lines and hemodynamic monitoring. Dialysis
Expected to be competent in caring for patients with acute or chronic kidney failure in the acute care dialysis setting. Expected to demonstrate proficiency in providing the following therapies to the adult/geriatric patient population as appropriate based on competencies: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). Expected to demonstrate knowledge of equipment used during therapy & follow infection control standards related to water testing, vascular access and equipment disinfection. Emergency Services
Expected to demonstrate ability to care for emergency room patients from the triage area throughout the emergency room patient care process. Endoscopy
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Expected to have knowledge of specialized equipment used in endoscopy. Imaging
Expected to be able to wear radiation protective lead aprons in excess of eight (8) hours while standing and walking. Expected to demonstrate ability to perform all diagnostic and ancillary procedures performed in Imaging Services. IV Therapy
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in central line procedures and administration of cancer chemotherapy. Maternal/Child Services
Labor and Delivery - Expected to have the ability to deliver care to the patient throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and newborn periods. Mother/Baby - Expected to have the ability to deliver care to the patient throughout the antepartum, postpartum and newborn periods. NICU - Expected to demonstrate proficiency in caring for Level I, II, and III neonates. Lactation - Expected to demonstrate ability to provide comprehensive lactation support to the nursing mother/baby and provide education to the nursing staff. Multi-Modality
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in patient education specific to patients diagnosed with cancer. Expected to demonstrate proficiency at organizing and collecting data pertinent to patient diagnoses and presenting statistical findings to physicians. Oncology
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in central line procedures and the administration of cancer chemotherapy. Operating Room
Expected to demonstrate ability to deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient. Expected to have knowledge of specialized equipment used in the operating room. PACU
Expected to be skilled in the comprehensive care of the pre-operative and post-operative patient, including critical patient care. Radiation Oncology
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in the principles of radiation safety. Expected to demonstrate proficiency in patient education on self-care measures specific to patients receiving radiation therapy. Telemetry
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in EKG interpretation. Expected to demonstrate proficiency in caring for cardiac patients at the intermediate level. Pain Management
Expected to be able to wear radiation protective lead aprons in excess of eight (8) hours while standing and walking. Expected to demonstrate proficiency in assessment and documentation of pain and in educating the community and patients on pain management. Expected to demonstrate ability in circulating all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures done at the pain management center, including conscious sedation. Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine
Expected to demonstrate proficiency in assessment, evaluation and treatment including debridement of necrotic tissue of wound care patients. Expected to demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in hyperbaric medicine. NURSING COACH
Expected to demonstrate strong interpersonal and teaching skills. Expected to have the ability to apply the nursing process in routine and complex situations. Minimum
Education and/or Experience:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school (AD in Nursing, RN Diploma, or BSN) MInimum of 2 years experience is REQUIRED
Licensure/Regulation/Certification:
Current Florida license as a Registered Nurse BLS certification by the American Heart Association ACLS certification by the American Heart Association-Pre-Admissions Testing area is not required to have ACLS PALS certification for the following departments: Emergency Services, PACU PALS or NRP certification for Mother/Baby department NRP certification for the following departments: Labor and Delivery, NICU IABP certification for the following departments: Cath Lab, CVICU 80% or higher score on medication test
* Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites.
