Boca Raton Regional Hospital Among America's Best Hospitals for Third Year in a Row
Healthgrades distinction is based on outstanding patient outcomes across 27 medical procedures and diagnoses
BOCA RATON, Fla. – February 19, 2013 – A report released today by Healthgrades® named Boca Raton Regional Hospital one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2013. This makes the third year in a row the Hospital has earned this prestigious accolade. In order to earn a place on the list of America's 50 Best Hospitals, a facility had to have mortality and complication rates low enough to place them in the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for the last seven consecutive years. To be listed among the next 50 hospitals on the list of America's Best 100 Hospitals, facilities had to rank in the top five percent for the last four consecutive years.
“Today, consumers have unprecedented access to information on hospital performance as it relates to the treatment of specific conditions and procedures enabling them to make more informed decisions about who to see and where to go for care,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “Achieving this recognition as an America’s 50 Best hospital requires a steadfast commitment to quality that has been demonstrated year after year. This designation should provide enhanced confidence to consumers who are choosing among hospitals for those that provide consistent, measurable high quality of care.”
Other key findings of the Healthgrades report include:
- If, between 2009 and 2011, all U.S. hospitals had performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals, then nearly 165,636 deaths could have been prevented, according to the report.
The organization considered nearly 4,500 hospitals, ranging in size from 100 beds to more than 500. The organization used seven years of Medicare data looked at the 27 most common diagnoses and procedures in the Medicare population, to do their analysis.
Of the 3,718 non-profit hospitals considered, 95 made the list of America’s 100 Best. For the 723 for-profit hospitals considered, 5 made the list.
“We are extremely proud to be named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for the third consecutive year,” said Jerry Fedele, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boca Regional. “We have a longstanding tradition for clinical excellence and the Healthgrades ranking is strong validation of our expertise and constant dedication to the patients we serve.”
Besides Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Award, the Hospital has been named as a Healthgrades 2013 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence™ for the ninth year in a row. Only 34 of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals have earned such a consecutive distinction.
